Winter workshop for music teachers
Re-invigorate and inspire your teaching practice
The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music is one of Australia’s premier performing arts training institutions. This Winter Workshop is a professional development program that gives music teachers a chance to work with and learn from leading artists and educators in music.
Aiming to strengthen and invigorate your foundation in the arts as practitioners, academic and practical teaching staff from the MCM will inspire you and give you ideas and tools that you can take back into your classroom and teaching studio. We treat you as the musician you are!
Designed for classroom teachers, instrumental/vocal teachers and ensemble leaders, this program will be of value to those teaching music at upper primary and secondary levels.

Monday 25 June
10am: Singing / aural workshop with Peter Hurley
11am: Professor Gary McPherson: exact topic TBC
12pm: Lunch
1pm: Break into small groups for workshop sessions:
- African Drumming
- Guitar Ensemble
- Overcoming Performance Anxiety
- World Music Choir
- Composition
Tuesday 21 June
10am: Singing / aural workshop with Peter Hurley
11am: Simon Brown: Techniques for running successful rehearsals, activities and group sessions
12pm: Lunch
1pm: Break into small groups for workshop sessions:
- African Drumming
- Guitar Ensemble
- Overcoming Performance Anxiety
- World Music Choir
- Composition
All sessions run sequentially across both days, with Tuesday’s sessions moving on from the material looked at on Monday - you can either take the same session for both days, or swap to a different session on day 2. It is recommended that Composition is taken as a 2-day sequence.
